16-Jun-2018

Indian think-tank, NITI Aayog has published a report that highlights the top skill that will help you secure jobs in future. The list of skills can help the undergrad students to find relevant jobs when they graduate in 2020.

In a constantly changing world of Information Technology (IT), it has become essential for employees to upgrade their skill set. There are new changes and advances almost every month. In such a scenario, it becomes important for professionals in this field to upgrade their skills every month.

Students currently pursuing computer science education will be hunting for jobs by 2020. NITI Aayog?s report suggests that the job role of data analytics will have a greater demand in the next two years. The study further predicts that Indian IT firms will have a demand-supply gap of 2 lakh data analytics professionals by 2020.

NITI Aayog?s report titled ?National Strategy for AI? notes the new opportunities in emerging technologies. The IT sector will face a huge shortage of skills in the areas such as big data, cloud, automation and artificial intelligence (AI). The report talks about the job roles that will be lost to automation but it highlights the new and promising roles that the adoption of AI and automation will create.

The report said, ?Often criticized for being overly knowledge-intensive, Indian education is in urgent need of transition particularly in subjects relevant to the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math), or computer-based education. As technology-based jobs become prominent, so will the need to develop applied skills.?

Considering the rate of smartphone and internet adoption throughout the country, there will be huge opportunities in areas like data annotation, image classification, and speech translation. As the rural Indians adapt to internet services, tech giants will be forced to create offerings in vernacular languages.

NITI Aayog recommends new ways to prepare the workforce for upcoming disruption in IT. The study notes the need for higher industry-academia collaboration to promote learning. Indian IT sector that witnessed mass layoffs in 2017 will create a massive number of new opportunities in emerging technologies.
