20-Jun-2018

The Silicon Valley of India has the highest number of job openings in the country. Bengaluru leads in terms of the number of tech job opportunities.

Job seekers in the IT sectors have better chances of finding a suitable job in Bengaluru. The city contributes to 22% of all job postings in India. A study by job-listing site, Indeed states that Bengaluru has the highest number of IT job opportunities.

Bengaluru happens to be headquarters for most of the home-grown IT services firms. The city has also built a happening startup ecosystem around it. The state government of Karnataka has played an active role in the development of this tech ecosystem. A number of government-run initiatives have led to job creation in the IT sector.

According to data published by Indeed, Bengaluru tops the number of IT jobs followed by Delhi-NCR which accounts for 11% and Pune with 10% of total jobs in the country. The report said, “Aptly named the Silicon Valley of India, it comes as no surprise that Bengaluru continues to lead in terms of job opportunities in the technology sector, given that it has in the past been the home ground for several startups.”

Indeed’s Managing Director, Sashi Kumar said, “Today organizations must keep constantly evolving in order to keep pace with the advent of new technologies, be it AI, machine learning, or big data analytics. New technologies bring with them opportunities for employment, as new job roles emerge in their wake. However, while there are ample jobs available in India, the need of the hour is talent that is adequately skilled to fulfill the responsibilities the job entails. Employers all over the world are in search of employees with the ability to continuously upskill themselves, and thus continue to stay relevant to the organization.”

Other top cities for tech jobs include Hyderabad with 9%, Mumbai at 8%, Chennai at 7%, Mohali at 4% and Ahmedabad, which contributes 3% of the total tech jobs. The active job seekers in Bengaluru are in the age group of 20 to 29 years. While the senior job-seekers above the age of 55 are not much interested in looking for jobs in the tech sector.
