Is Microsoft really building an Android Phone?
20-Jul-2018

Rumor has it that Microsoft is actively working on a new line of phones based on Android Software. The company plans to roll out these devices early next year.

Yet to formally announce any such plans, Microsoft has tried its hands in the smartphone OS business. A number of plans of selling Windows Phones were pushed out in the market. But when Microsoft stopped making hardware, it continued creating applications which found their way into Android and iOS (Microsoft Office, Excel, just to name a few).

The new phone that Microsoft will apparently launch does not have an official name yet, but it most certainly won’t be called ‘Lumia’. According to the reports, new handsets will be powered by Android and sold under a new brand. All these news are being sourced through an anonymous Microsoft employee. It cannot be said for sure that this news is authentic.

Software giant Microsoft has not had profitable business outcomes from smartphones; several of their ideas and strategies have been unsuccessful.

Microsoft had a very confusing and unstable strategy, which led to the Windows Phone becoming a big disappointment. The company kept switching its strategies by initially starting with Nokia-made budget phones, and then bringing in only high-end phones backed by Windows 10.

Microsoft mobiles were left far behind Android and iOS due to various delays, which tarnished their reputation to a great degree. It wasn’t easy for Microsoft to rope in app developers for the operating system, and they failed to get android apps to work on their phones. All in all, the answer to why Microsoft pulled the plug on the Windows mobile phone rests with a poor planning and execution.

Going the Android way would be the most practical solution, if Microsoft plans on commencing manufacturing of any more phones in the future. Given that the Windows Phone is dead and Microsoft sells Android phones on their stores, this rumor may have some weight. On the other hand, the company may scrap the idea at the last minute. We have no other option but to wait and watch!
