Salary bonanza: TCS offers twice the average salary to freshers
05-Oct-2018

While the jobseekers and educational institutes are complaining about the scarcity of jobs in the tech industry, a top IT firm has doubled the base pay for freshers. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has offered nearly double salary to 1,000 freshers that possess new-age technical skills.

TCS’s move proves that there are ample of opportunities for those that possess digital skills like artificial intelligence (AI), big data and analytics. India’s IT sector typically offers Rs 3 to 3.5 lakh per annum salary package to fresh engineering graduates. TCS has offered nearly Rs 6.5 lakh base salary to newly recruited graduates. These freshers posses cutting-edge skills in new technologies.

India’s one of the biggest recruiters, TCS has extended this offer only to those that have trained themselves in new technologies like AI, data analytics. The company usually visits accredited engineering institutes for campus placement rounds. TCS has its all-India online test called the National Qualifier Test (NQT). The digitized process of hiring gives the fair chance to students with top technical skills.

So far, the NQT has reached 2,000 colleges in the country. The primary process includes an online test, followed by the video interview or face-to-face interview. The company has no plans to end the traditional campus recruitment, which is so far limited to 370 engineering institutes across India. NQT will help the company in identifying the key skills of a potential employee.

According to Ajoy Mukherjee, executive VP and head of global Human Resources at TCS described the recruitment process to media. Candidates that have done well in NQT will get another chance to write test for the digital talent pool. If they clear the exam and go through interview, they will get into the digital pool. TCS will offer different compensation to candidates that are part of the digital pool.

New-age skills like AI and big data analytics will drive the maximum number of tech jobs in the near future. According to Nasscom’s research, tech jobs in these roles will grow at a rate of 9%. The industry is expected to add one lakh new jobs in 2018-19, majorly of theses will be in areas like AI and IoT.
