A salary of 1.2 crore and a job at Google in New York for this Indian
12-Jul-2018

Google has hired a 22-year old from Mumbai for its AI-team. The company has offered an impressive salary of Rs 1.2 crore to a 22-year old M.Tech student.

Organizations around the world are increasingly investing in artificial intelligence. Google conducted a global test to hire a skilled graduate for its artificial intelligence team. Aditya Paliwal, a 22-year old student from the International Institute of Information Technology-Bengaluru (IIIT-B) is among the top 50 finalists to bag a job in Google’s AI team.

The Mumbai-based student emerged as a winner in a competition that saw participation from 6,000 students from across the globe to clear the preliminary round. He was also among the top 50 finalists in the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC). ICPC is a prestigious competition that is conducted each year for programming enthusiasts. This year, more than 50,000 students from 111 countries and 2,098 universities across the world had participated in the ACM ICPC.

The global test for the researcher’s position in Google’s AI team saw intense competition from the 6000 participating students. Paliwal agrees that it was not easy to clear the preliminary round. Among the 50 students that managed to get a job in Google’s AI team, five are from India. Aditya is joining Google’s AI team in its New York offices on July 18.

Explaining his journey throughout ACM ICPC test, Aditya said, “It's open to all students across the world and you apply with your resume along with a Statement of Purpose and a recommendation letter. Based on this they shortlist you, and there are subsequent rounds of interviews and at the end of it, you get the job. Usually, after a CS degree, people get a proper engineering job but this is a job in the research domain. So more than common problems, it is more about trying to solve open problems and shortlisting potential future problems and finding answers to them.”

As a student, Aditya never focused on getting a job. He was always interested in learning new concepts. Bagging a job at Google’s AI wing is just the beginning of an interesting journey. Paliwal will get a lot of opportunities to learn along his way at Google. The search engine firm has set a new benchmark of salary package with this job offer to Paliwal.
