Google offers Rs 1.2 crore package to a Hyderabad girl
13-Aug-2018

Google has offered Rs 1.2 crore pay package to a graduate of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Hyderabad. A computer science graduate bagged the job after going through four rounds of tests.

K Sneha Reddy, a girl who hails from a town in Vikarabad district in Telangana has bagged the job in Google’s AI Team. She will focus on fundamental research in Artificial Intelligence (AI) at Google. This is by far the highest pay package received by an IIT-H student since its establishment in 2008.

The hiring did not happen through a traditional recruitment process. Sneha had applied for Google’s Intelligence Project Research, which involved four rounds of online tests and interviews. While there is no official communication from the institute, Sneha has rejected various job offers during the campus placement season this year.

The girl who hails from a small town has also received a medal under ‘Excellence in Academics and Co-curricular activities’ from President Ram Nath Kovind. Sneha’s father, Sudhakar works in a software firm in Hyderabad. She gives credit of her success to the institute. Sneha said that IIT-H encourages its students towards experimental learning, which helped her a lot in getting selected for Google’s project.

Sneha’s batchmate, Ibrahim Dalal too has bagged a job with Google. Dalal has been offered a pay package of Rs 35 lakh per annum. IIT-H has proven to have a good track record. The institute established in 2008 has been ranked number 10 among research and teaching institutes in India.

Out of the four gold medals awarded at the 7th convocation ceremony held at IIT-H, three went to girl students. Telangana Government has always been at the forefront of supporting innovation and experimental learning. The government’s efforts have helped Hyderabad in becoming one of the important tech hubs in India.

At the 7th convocation of IIT-H, the honorable President Kovind said, “The knowledge ecosystem of public investments in science, academic institutions and universities, research laboratories, commercial applications and private enterprise has an almost magical potential. Its best example is, of course, Silicon Valley in the US. At the core of Silicon Valley are basic science and technology campuses and their talented faculty and students."
