Apple has acknowledged the hardware flaws in two of its products - the iPhone X and the MacBook Pro 13-inch. The hardware issues first appeared on Apple’s support page on Friday.
The hardware issues are limited in nature. Not all the editions of these devices are experiencing the problem. Apple is offering free replacement of defective parts at retail store or at an Apple Authorized Service Provider. You need to check if your device is eligible for free repair by entering the serial number on the Apple Support page.
On Friday, Apple said that some iPhone X devices are experiencing display related issues. These issues included:
- The entire screen, or part of the screen does not respond. Or it responds intermittently to user’s touch.
- The display reacts even when a user hasn’t touched it.
Several iPhone X users were complaining about the touch issue on internet forums for months. The device has been available on the market for less than one year. Following the launch of new generation iPhone XS and iPhone XR, iPhone X sales had slowed down.
The touch screen issue is similar to the one that crept up in 2016 with the iPhone 6 Plus. Apple had charged users $149 to fix the problem back then. The company also confirmed that its 13-inch MacBook Pro (non-touch bar) is facing data loss related issue. The laptops sold between June 2017 and June 2018 have data related issue.
The affected devices will be serviced at Apple’s authorized service provider for free. The eligible iPhone X users can get a free display replacement from Apple service provider or retail store. Similarly, MacBook Pros that suffered data loss or disk failures can get a free repair at an authorized service provider. To check if your MacBook is eligible for the free repair, enter the serial number on Apple’s support page.
