Bharti Airtel has announced the launch of its 4G services in Bangalore, starting this month. But for the time being, this service will be available only on the Apple iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C smartphones.
Subscribers will be able to use the 4G network for data while the calls will still be routed through the old 2G or 3G networks.
The service is available to both prepaid and postpaid subscribers.
4G is much faster than 3G. Using it, users will be able to stream high definition video with zero buffering, download 10 movies in less than 30 minutes, upload full holiday albums in less minutes and connect multiple devices without any glitches.
The company has introduced a new 4G plan for customers with heavy usage - 10 GB 4G data plan will cost Rs 1,000.
The user will have to get his existing SIM replaced with a 4G SIM. According to the release, existing 3G plan users will be able to access 4G services at the same cost. New customers buying a 4G SIM can select any 3G data pack/plan to get 4G.
Srini Gopalan, Director - Consumer Business, Bharti Airtel India said: "Airtel has always set the technology trends in India and was the first operator to introduce 4G in the country. The information technology capital of India saw the advent of 4G in 2012 and today we are proud to announce the launch of the much awaited Airtel 4G services on mobile in partnership with Apple."
