During the Mobile World Congress this year, Microsoft announced that the Facebook Messenger app for Windows Phone was in the final stages of development and would be released soon. The messenger app is now available for download on the Windows Store and users can now collectively breathe a sigh of relief.
Facebook’s messenger is a great one stop solution for messaging your friends. Compared to other messengers like Whatsapp, Hike, Telegram, the messenger plugs directly into Facebook’s main messaging feature, thus making it ubiquitous and easy to use everywhere. In its earlier versions the messenger app for Android and iOS did not really deliver a great experience and was pretty slow. But now there have been quite a few improvements with respect to speed, features and design. Additional functionality include sending sms using the messenger to people who are not on Facebook.
The messenger for Windows Phone is feature comparable to its iOS and Android cousins. It follows the Windows Phone design guidelines in terms of UI and actually looks like a fun product to use.
Recently, Facebook cut off support for the Messenger on Windows 8 desktop without much explanation. It seems that the company might want to push a uniform product to all Microsoft platforms, which is in good alignment with Microsoft trying to unify its desktop and phone app stores into one single store.
