In this never ending telecom war, Reliance Jio has been crowned the leader in internet speed for the month of March. As per the latest findings by TRAI, Reliance Jio’s average speed for the month of March was 16.48 Mbps followed by Idea Cellular at 8.33 Mbps and Airtel at 7.66 Mbps. Apart from this, Vodafone took up the fourth spot with 5.66 Mbps while the bottom of the table was crowded by Reliance Communications (2.64 Mbps), Tata Docomo (2.52 Mbps), BSNL (2.26 Mbps) and Aircel with 2.01 Mbps.
Note that all the above data is the result of TRAI’s MySpeed application with which the authority claims to track the data speeds and coverage on a real-time basis.
On the other hand, another report from Open Signal claims that Airtel is fastest when we consider average internet speed while Reliance Jio is the king of network coverage in India right now. Note that the data collected by Open Signal was for the period between December 2016 and February 2017 with about 1.3 billion data-points collected from 93464 users. As per the Open Signal research report, Airtel topped the chart with 11.5 Mbps data speed while Vodafone and Idea Cellular were measured at about 8.5 Mbps. Further, Airtel was reported to be the top in 3G network as well with an average speed of 6.2 Mbps closely followed by Vodafone at 5.1 Mbps.
However, in terms of LTE availability or coverage, Reliance Jio topped the list with 91.6 percent availability much higher than other operators who notched somewhere around 60 percent.
“We are happy to present our first State of Mobile Networks report for India - one of the most complex mobile markets we have ever studied. Not only is the mobile market extremely large, but it is a highly distributed one. It is a fascinating market that will only continue to get more intriguing,” said Brendan Gill, CEO & Co-Founder, OpenSignal.
Not a long ago, Airtel was named India's Fastest Mobile Network by Ookla Speedtest which was quickly opposed by Reliance Jio and Airtel was soon directed by ASCI to take down the ad campaign.
