Google Assistant to speak in Hindi soon
27-Feb-2018

On February 23, Google announced that its digital assistant software will be available in more than 30 languages by the year end. Google is working towards enhancing the capabilities of its AI technology in a bid to counter Amazon and other firms in this field.

According to a Google blog post, Google Assistant artificial intelligence software is accessible on its allied speakers, Android smart-phones and other gadgets. It will also include include multilingual capacity "so families or individuals that speak more than one language can speak naturally" in the program.

"By the end of the year (Google Assistant) will be available in more than 30 languages (including Hindi, Danish, Indonesian and others), reaching 95% of all eligible Android phones worldwide," Nick Fox, Vice-President of Google said in the blog post.

Amid slacking market position of associated gadgets against Amazon's Alexa equipment, this move is expected to assist Google to increase competition in the new markets.

With Google suffering a setback against connected devices of other brands such as Amazon’s Alexa-powered hardware, this move of including multi-lingual capability will help the company to regain lost ground.

Currently, Alexa works only in English language whereas Google Assistant works in eight languages and the new move will help expand its abilities further.

"In the next few months, we'll bring the Assistant to Danish, Dutch, Hindi, Indonesian, Norwegian, Swedish and Thai on Android phones and iPhones, and we'll add more languages on more devices throughout the year."

Fox wrote, the multilingual choice will initially be accessible in English, French, and German, and support for more languages will be included "over time".

The move comes in the midst of an extreme competition for artificial intelligence software on smart-phones and other gadgets offered by Amazon, Microsoft, Apple, Samsung and so forth.

With its Alexa-powered speakers, Amazon took the early lead and is supposed to hold the large share of that market, while Google Home gadgets stood at a distant second place.

Apple entered most recently in the speaker segment with its HomePod, which went on sale this present month in the US, Britain, and Australia.
