The e-commerce giant, Amazon has as many as 4,000 open positions in India. Amazon India has disclosed its big hiring plans for the coming year.
While the media is full of reports claiming Amazon has laid off 60 people in India, the company has clarified its hiring plans for India. Amazon India’s spokesperson said, “Reports stating 60 people (being fired) is factually incorrect and overstated.” The company has rather recognized its resources to stay organized and agile. The reorganization has impacted a small number of roles.
Amazon India is committed to creating a large workforce in the country. The company’s spokesperson further added that Amazon India has provided a complete support to impacted employees. The spokesperson further added, “We would like to add that we continue to hire across multiple roles in India, with little over 4,000 jobs being open for hire across various teams in India.”
The company has offered options for relevant internal postings and outplacement services to those that have been laid off. Even a few months back, Amazon had declared that it will be making headcount adjustments across the company. The annual planning process involves small reductions within the company.
Amazon India is busy fighting an intense battle for market leadership with its close competitor, Flipkart. Both the e-com players have pumped in millions of dollars in building the infrastructure, logistics and marketing services. Another emerging player Paytm is intensifying the competition in the segment.
Paytm Mall, backed by SoftBank and Alibaba can help in boosting technology and logistics. Amazon employs over 5.6 lakh employees globally. The company is channeling its efforts to get more people to shop online. The 4,000 open positions are across various business functions at the company.
