Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is all set to introduce a new engineering course, BTech in Computer Science and Business Systems, at the Sri Krishna College of Engineering and Technology from the coming academic year.
Ranjan Bandyopadhyay, global vice-president, human resources, TCS, said the firm has applied for approval from the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) for the course and would introduce it as a pilot programme in four colleges across the country.
The course, he said, would be listed as a standard BTech course on the AICTE portal from the next academic year and the firm would help any institution willing to introduce the course in their college.
“The course will have subjects on the latest technologies such as big data, design thinking and machine learning. TCS will train faculty members and if there is no one competent to teach the subjects, our experts will handle them,” Bandyopadhyay said.
He said the firm would also evaluate the course. “Students who complete the course successfully will be preferred for recruitment in the company,” he added.
The course, Bandyopadhyay said, would focus on management and soft skills. “A lot of engineering graduates are not good at communication skills. Hence, we have introduced these subjects,” he said.
The TCS would start the course from the coming academic year in one college each in Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Maharashtra. “We are yet to decide the fourth place,” he said.
