Xiaomi opens 3 more manufacturing units; plans to hire 50,000 skilled workers

Chinese smartphone maker, Xiaomi has set up three new manufacturing units in India. The company now has total six manufacturing hubs in the country.

Xiaomi is hosting its global component suppliers to showcase new opportunities in India. Manufacturing experts believe that these suppliers can bring in as much as Rs 15000 crore worth investment in the Indian economy.

Manu Jain, Xiaomi India’s managing director said, “We had two facilities for smartphone manufacturing earlier. Now, we have added three more in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh and Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu. These are in partnership with Foxconn.”

Xiaomi India’s officials are working with Electronics and IT ministry to seek government’s support for its India-specific initiatives. The Chinese firm wants to bring more of its product ecosystem in India. Xiaomi has always believed in pushing for local manufacturing plants to support the local economy.

There are no more details about new factories are available as yet. However, the company plans to double its manufacturing capacity in India. With three new hubs, Xiaomi will be manufacturing two phones per second during operational hours.

Xiaomi is also setting up new PCB (printed circuit board) unit in Sriperumbudur. The company has joined hands with Foxconn for development of the new plant. Mr. Jain further added, “PCB is 50% of the value of a phone... By Q3, all Xiaomi phones made in India will have PCBs that are locally assembled. If these companies choose to invest here, there is an investment opportunity of over ?15,000 crore and can generate employment for over 50,000 people.”
