Reliance Jio has initiated the work on its artificial intelligence (AI) platform. The company has started recruiting new talent that can work on its ‘JioInteract’ platform.
The company has opened its doors for people who can work on artificial intelligence, machine learning, and blockchain. The team will work under Mukesh Ambani’s son, Akash Ambani. Reliance Jio’s AI team will operate Bengaluru or Hyderabad, the company is yet to decide the location.
According to anonymous sources, Akash Ambani has already started exploring multiple use cases of AI for the telecom firm. The sources said, “Reliance Jio has hired a few senior people who will build this team. The company wants to set up this team in either Bengaluru or Hyderabad. Akash Ambani is taking a keen interest in this and is expected to lead this initiative. Reliance Jio has already started the recruitment process in Bengaluru. Apart AI, it is looking for people who can work on machine learning and blockchain.”
Although Reliance Jio is the latest entrant in the Indian telecom market, the company has reached the high milestones of success. Telecom firm has a total of 186 million subscribers since its launch in September 2016. Jio has essentially revolutionized the telecom market in the country.
Considering the significant success in the telecom sector, it is quite obvious that Jio is now focusing on technologies such as blockchain, artificial intelligence, and IoT. At the inaugural address of the India Digital Open Summit in January, Akash Ambani had hinted Jio’s plans to enter AI. He had said, “Globally, Artificial Intelligence is becoming one of the mainstream technologies and voice assistance, recognition and command are growing on a daily basis in terms of usage.”
Last month, Reliance Jio announced ‘JioInteract’, an AI-powered platform for movie production and brand engagement. The platform can take user questions and automatically respond. It is powered by an auto-learning algorithm that improves the accuracy of answers. Jio is also targeting the developers' ecosystem and pushing them to create innovative applicationsvirtual showrooms, product demonstrations, ordering cart for e-commerce, etc.
In an interaction with Livemint, one industry expert said, “Recognizing patternslarge numbers are involved in the core of Artificial Intelligence. Reliance Jio could use it to figure out how best to run a network, deploy capacity, what to bundle, which services to target across regions, among others. Artificial intelligence can also help a telco better monetize usage of data on its pipe and strategize its content push.”
