WhatsApp is free to send messages over whatsApp. Provided you have an adequate data plane for your smartphone and a current subscription in WhatsApp, it is free to send and receive messages and media over WhatsApp.
WhatsApp Messenger uses your phone's internet connection to send and receive messages, pictures, audio, video, location, and contacts. As long as your phone is not roaming and you have not exceeded your data limit, messaging over WhatsApp should not cost you extra.
How it works
WhatsApp Messenger is a cross-platform mobile messaging app which allows you to exchange messages without having to pay for SMS. WhatsApp Messenger is available for iPhone, BlackBerry, Android, Windows Phone and Nokia and yes, those phones can all message each other! Because WhatsApp Messenger uses the same internet data plan that you use for email and web browsing, there is no cost to message and stay in touch with your friends.
In addition to basic messaging WhatsApp users can create groups, send each other unlimited images, video and audio media messages.
How do I use group chat?
There are a few basics to keep in mind:
- You may add up to 50 participants to any group you create.
- You may create a maximum of 50 groups.
- Only the group administrator can add people to the group chat. When you create a group, you are automatically added as the admin.
- If you are the group admin and you leave the group, WhatsApp will randomly assign admin status to a remaining group participant. Only that person can add you back to the group.
- You can always control your own participation in a group chat, by staying in or leaving the group when you wish. Remember that the group admin is the only participant with the ability to add people, so if you have any questions about being added to a group, or prefer not to be added, please speak to the group admin.
