Automation is coming and will make all jobs redundant. If you’ve heard that a lot and are worried, there is some good news coming your way.
Speaking at the WCIT India 2018, Robotics Expert David Hanson said:
''There is no real danger from Artificial Intelligence or history to indicate that machine intelligence will take over human intelligence.''
Is there some merit in this statement? Let’s find out!
Labour Report by Stockholm School of Economics
There is no denying the fact that automation will make jobs redundant. Only time will tell how fast that happens and the impact it leaves. Should we panic? Absolutely not!
A Substitution of Labour report prepared by four researchers at the Stockholm School of Economics has pointed out that robots completely taking over and making humans in the workforce obsolete is something that is not true, at least not across all industries.
The report goes on to establish the fact that creative problem solving, mobility and complex decision-making are traits that give humans an edge over Artificial Intelligence.
The First Humanoid - Sophia the Robot
If you haven’t already now is the time to say hello to the world’s first humanoid citizen, Sophia the Robot. Sophia was introduced to India at the 26th Edition of the NASSCOM India Leadership Forum (NILF) in Hyderabad. NILF partnered the World Congress on Information Technology to deliver an impressive technology event which was also attended by India’s Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi.
During the event, David Hanson, an American Scientist and the Founder of Hanson Robotics which created Sophia was quick to dispel the hype around Artificial Intelligence or Machine Intelligence taking over human intelligence completely.
Career Opportunities in Robotics
The advancements made in the field of robotics engineering presents a great new alternative for young IT professionals in India. Robotics for Engineers is a field that can help them acquire new skills like in Robotics Software, 3D Robotics, robotics software architecture, robotics design, etc.
Conclusion
While the jury is still out on the exact impact of automation on jobs in the future, one thing is certain. IT Professionals of today will have to be quick to adapt to the changes being brought about by new and emerging technologies. Their willingness to learn and evolve will eventually be the determining factor between the leaders and laggards of the future.
