India’s ability to build a network of new-age technologies and industry ecosystem will help the country in becoming a leader. DoT Secretary, Aruna Sundararajan believes that we need to build core networks and enable ecosystem policies for the industry’s growth.
DoT Secretary highlighted government’s efforts to enable growth of the industry. Sundararajan said, “I agree India has more at stake in IoT and 5G than any other country because we need to leapfrog to meet the aspirations of the young demography and democracy.” The next-generation technologies like IoT are critical for India’s development.
Since these technologies can possibly transform the way machines and human communicate, they can create a new genre of services in both domestic and international markets. The developments in the emerging technology can further help in sectors like healthcare, consumer retail, smart energy, transport, and agriculture.
DoT Secretary further added, “We need to have core network and communications ecosystem that will facilitate 5G and IoT. We also need to get the rest of the ecosystem ready for the paradigm change.” Sundararajan was addressing IoT summit by CII in New Delhi.
There are a number of companies working on IoT applications in India. We have startups that are innovating using IoT technologies. The strong positioning in telecom technologies like 5G will help India define the future roadmap.
The telecom department is actively helping in areas like machine-to-machine communication. The department has issued M2M service provider registration guidelines. The ministry is taking active efforts in finalizing a roadmap for 13-digit M2M numbering scheme. DoT has agreed to consult with the industry experts for innovation opportunities.
